The Maryland Toleration Act, 1649This new law of Maryland states that all types of Christians are allowed to practice their religion in the colony of Maryland. This includes Catholics, Puritans, Quakers, etc..Notably, it excludes all non-Christian denominations under the penalty of death.
This is the first step in the New World for some type of religious tolerance. It gave English Catholics seeking refuge a place to freely worship alongside their Puritan counterparts. Although it is a step towards religious tolerance, it is a small one, and no other non-Christian religions were allowed.

Samuel de Champlain Introduces Firearms to Native Warfare, 1609This article is a vivid story about the journey of Samuel de Champlain during his exhibition to establish new land for the colony of New France. He collaborates with the Montagnais, Algonkaian, and Huron Native Americans to help aid him in the fight against their enemies the Iroquois. Champlain encountered the many ways of how the natives prepare for battle along the way. When he finally met up with his foes at a lake, later to be named Lake Champlain, Samuel and the natives obliterated the opposing forces by using the technology of firearms in which the Iroquois were frightened due to their ignorance. Champlain left the battlefield victorious with prisoners and the large corn fields, as well as their shields.
The significance of this article is to show how the curious explorers were far superior to the Native Americans and the explorers took advantage by imposing fear with technological advancements. Also, its showcases how the explorers would use certain tribes just to acquire possessions or material that they needed, such as the great fields of corn or their vast piece of land, just certain things that would help them spread colonial influence or boost their economy.
